Aluminum chloride is produced from clay containing aluminum oxide and silicon oxide by chlorinating the clay through contact with a mixture consisting essentially of a chlorinating agent, a reducing agent, an alkali metal compound catalyst, and silicon chloride; and thereafter separating the reaction products from the chlorination step; and recycling back to the chlorination step substantially all the silicon chloride separated from the reaction products to thereby promote the chlorination of the aluminum oxide in the clay while suppressing chlorination of the silicon oxide.

The invention relates to methods for producing aluminum chloride, which can be used as a catcher for the cracking of petroleum products, as well as for a number of organic syntheses. A known method for producing aluminum chloride by chlorinating an aluminum-containing raw material in the presence of a reducing agent and a catalyst, potassium chloride, sodium chloride and other alkali metal halides, fl. There is also known a method for the extraction of aluminum chloride by chlorinating kaolin with chlorine in the presence of a carbon monoxide reducer at 550-650, followed by separation of the product from silicon tetrachloride and returning it to the beginning of the process 2. The disadvantage of this method is the low yield of the product (25%). The purpose of the invention is to increase the yield of the product. The goal is achieved by the fact that in a known method, which is accomplished by chlorinating kaolin in the presence of a reducing agent at 550BZO-C, followed by separating silicon from the silicon tetrachloride and returning it to the beginning of the process, the process is carried out in the presence of chromium chlorine aluminate and agent use phosgene. The proposed method allows an increase in the yield of 91%. The addition of KAvSVD has a catalytic effect on AvzOz chlorination by the action of silicon chloride by the reaction KSv - ABCe, Al Clg-l2AI205 + 3S1CI4 2 + 3 SiOg. Example. 100 g of kaolin is ground to a particle size of 0.6 mm and calcined for 30 minutes. Then the resulting product is chlorinated with phosgene in a fluidized bed reactor for 125 minutes at 600 ° C. The data obtained in the presence and absence of a catalyst are tabulated.
Some aluminum chloride is expected to form as a result of the interaction between the silicon chloride and the fraction of alumina present in the kaolin.

1.
